VOICE

Voice is the form of the Verb which shows whether what is denoted by the subject does something or has something done to it.

KINDS OF VOICE :-
(I) Active Voice
(II) Passive Voice

1. Active Voice : A verb is said to be in the Active Voice when its form shows that the person or thing denoted by the subject does something. In other words we can say that to express the emphasis on the subject or to express the importance of the subject Active Voice is used.

2. Passive Voice : A Verb is said to be in the Passive Voice when its form shows that something is done to the person or thing denoted by the subject. In other words we can say that to express the emphasis on the Object or to express the importance of the Object, Passive Voice it used.

Nominative Case : I, We, You, He, She, It, They, Who
Objective Case: Me, Us, You, Him, Her, It, Them, Whom

Examples:
Active: Ram loves Sita.
Passive: Sita is loved by Ram.
Active: He is writing a letter.
Passive: A letter is being written by him.
Active: The police arrested the thief.
Passive: The thief was arrested.
Active: I shall help you.
Passive: You will be helped by me.
Active: We can buy gold but we cannot buy sympathy.
Passive: Gold can be bought but sympathy cannot be bought.

Passive Voice of Present Indefinite / Simple Tense
(A) Affirmative Sentences:
Structure: Sub + is/am/are + V(3rd) + Other words.
Example:
Active: I write a letter.
Passive: A letter is written by me.
Active: She loves me.
Passive: I am loved by her.
Active: They eat apples.
Passive: Apples are eaten by them.
Active: We help you.
Passive: You are helped by us.

(B) Negative Sentences:
Structure: Sub + is/am/are + not + V(3rd) + Other words.
Example:
Active: I do not write a letter.
Passive: A letter is not written by me.
Active: She does not love me.
Passive: I am not loved by her.
Active: They do not eat apples.
Passive: Apples are not eaten by them.
Active: We do not help you.
Passive: You are not helped by us.

(C) Interrogative Sentences:
Structure: Is/Am/Are + Sub + V(3rd) + Other words ?
                   Wh-words + is/am/are + Sub + V(3rd) + Other words ?
                    (Wh-words are what, when, how, whose, which, where, who, why, etc.)
Example:
Active: Do I write a letter ?
Passive: Is a letter written by me ?
Active: Does she love me ?
Passive: Am I loved by her ?
Active: Do they eat apples ?
Passive: Are apples eaten by them ?
Active: Do we help you ?
Passive: Are you helped by us ?
Active: Who loves you most ?
Passive: By whom are you loved most ?
Active: Where do you teach him ?
Passive: Where is he taught by you ?
Active: How do you know her ?
Passive: How is she known to you ?

(D) Negative - Interrogative Sentences:
Structure: Is/Am/Are + Sub + not + V(3rd) + Other words ?
                   Wh-words + is/am/are + Sub + V(3rd) + Other words ?

Passive: Is a letter not written by me ?
Active: Does she not love me ?
Passive: Am I not loved by her ?

Passive Voice of Present Continuous Tense
(A) Affirmative Sentences:
Structure: Sub + is/am/are + being + V(3rd) + Other words.
Example:
Active: I am writing a letter.
Passive: A letter is being written by me.
Active: She is loving me.
Passive: I am being loved by her.
Active: They are eating apples.
Passive: Apples are being eaten by them.
Active: We are helping you.
Passive: You are being helped by us.

(B) Negative Sentences:
Structure: Sub + is/am/are + not + being + V(3rd) + Other words.
Example:
Active: I am not writing a letter.
Passive: A letter is not being written by me.
Active: She is not loving me.
Passive: I am not being loved by her.
Active: They are not eating apples.
Passive: Apples are not being eaten by them.
Active: We are not helping you.
Passive: You are not being helped by us.

(C) Interrogative Sentences:
Structure: Is/Am/Are + Sub + being + V(3rd) + Other words ?
                   Wh-words + is/am/are + Sub + being + V(3rd) + Other words ?
Example:

Passive Voice of Present Perfect Tense
(A) Affirmative Sentences:
Structure: Sub + have/has + been + V(3rd) + Other words.
Example:
Active: I have written a letter.
Passive: A letter has been written by me.
Active: She has loved me.
Passive: I have been loved by her.
Active: They have eaten apples.
Passive: Apples have been eaten by them.
Active: We have helped you.
Passive: You have been helped by us.

(B) Negative Sentences:
Structure: Sub + have/has + not + been + V(3rd) + Other words.
Example:
Active: I have not written a letter.
Passive: A letter has not been written by me.
Active: She has not loved me.
